Tree House Camp

In October of 2002 we ran a Tree House Camp at the districts camping ground of Owls Nest (the trees at Crows Nest aren't big enough to host a tree house of nymphs yet, let alone hulking scouts).  The boys but together in record time a multi-levelled tree house where everyone pitched in according to their own abilities and strengths.  The scouters had to do very little encouragement and empressed everyone with their ability to work as a unit and to achieve their goals way ahead of schedule.

Unfortunately nature intervened and the scouters had to step in on Saturday afternoon because although the scouts are fearless, previous experience has taught not to play around with a thunderstorm nasty mood swings.   The boys took the disappointment like true hero's and made the best of the rest of the camp, finding fun in the most mundane of objects and exercises.  One would be wrong to call this camp anything but a resounding success both on the level of skills and on the level of pure enjoyment.

Martin Primary School's Project

Martin Primary School in the north of Boksburg asked Second Boksburg to build a monkey bridge pioneering project to advertise scouting at their annual Christmas fete.  With flawless planning on our side, and a few confused details on behalf of the school, we finished the project with piles of time to spare.  The boys didn't mind and enjoyed 'testing' the project out before opening it up to the general public.

Safety with a public project becomes very important and with abseiling rope and harnesses in plqce made every effort to make each learners first experience with scouting a memorable but safe experience.  This is not the most difficult or challenging project we've every errected at a school but it was without any great hiccups and all those that pitched in to build and run and tear down the project seemed to enjoy showing off what they can do.
